Delta Gamma

Eta Gamma Chapter at Texas A&M

Philanthropy

Delta Gamma strives to instill in its members a sense of responsibility towards philanthropic commitments. Our national philanthropy is Service for Sight. Delta Gammas across the nation raise funds and volunteer their time to assist the blind and visually impaired.

Each year Eta Gamma Chapter of Delta Gamma at Texas A&M University holds their annual fundraising event. Last year, Eta Gamma chose to host their first ever Anchor Slam® to raise money for Delta Gamma’s national philanthropy. Anchor Slam® is a nationwide fundraiser that many Delta Gamma chapters host, providing a way for us to connect with the other Delta Gamma chapters in North America. Anchor Slam® consists of a 3-on-3-basketball tournament in which members from fraternities, corps outfits, and other men’s organizations compete against each other. Women from the chapter are selected to coach these male teams and organize practices and social events.

Anchor Slam

Our chapter has raised thousands of dollars to donate to Service for Sight. Internationally, Delta Gamma has donated over a million dollars to organizations dedicated to serving the blind and visually impaired. We are also able to support the three Delta Gamma schools for the blind, located in Denver, Los Angeles, and St. Louis. Some of the money we raise is also returned to our members in the form of scholarships and fellowships.

In addition to raising money at Anchor Slam®, Dee Gees perform many other local service projects which allow us to give back to a community that is always so willing to open its arms to our sorority and college students. Our chapter helps citizens who are visually impaired in the Bryan/College Station area by driving them to and from their scheduled meetings. We host holiday parties at our house for the visually impaired and also collect Christmas gifts for children who are visually impaired in the community. Little things go a long way, and that is evident in the faces of the individuals we have had the pleasure of meeting. For the past three years, Eta Gamma has teamed up with the University of Houston Delta Gamma chapter and volunteered together at a Beeping Easter Egg Hunt hosted by the Lighthouse of Houston. This has been a wonderful opportunity for us to interact with many children who are visually impaired and their families by playing games and making crafts. It also gives us a chance to get to know Dee Gee sisters from another chapter.

Last year our chapter completed over 2,500 service hours, along with collecting hundreds of pairs of eyeglasses to donate! We take great pride in our impact on people’s lives and they, in turn, have touched our lives in memorable ways.
